Starkville-Mississippi State University Symphony Association Pops on the Plaza Concert
September, 2007

The Starkville-Mississippi State University Symphony Association will kick off its 2007-2008 Concert Season with its annual “Pops on the Plaza” concert. The Association will be represented by the State Messengers Jazz Combo in the free concert held in downtown Starkville on the Cadence Bank Plaza beginning at 6 pm on Tuesday evening, October 2, 2007. The program of jazz and show music is sponsored by Cadence Bank and the Greater Starkville Development Partnership.

“Pops on the Plaza” is a Starkville and Symphony Association tradition dating back several decades, and this year’s program – like that of the past few years – will feature an evening of jazz music. The State Messengers are a 7 piece group that specializes in the music of the swing and bebop era and are led by the Music Director of the Symphony Orchestra, Dr. Michael Brown, Head of the Department of Music at Mississippi State University. Cokes and popcorn will be available and chairs will be provided. For those patrons who just can’t sit still to the toe-tapping music, Main Street will be closed to allow them to safely dance to the tunes. The program will last about an hour.
