Starkville-Mississippi State University Symphony Association Programs for Children/Orchestra Fall Concert
September, 2007

The Starkville-Mississippi State University Symphony Association will sponsor a series of free concerts for children of all ages on Friday, October 12 in Lee Hall Auditorium on the Mississippi State University campus. School children, grades K-5, are invited to attend performances at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. to hear the 60 piece Orchestra perform Peter and the Wolf by Prokofiev and music from the Harry Potter films as well as to participate in a conducting contest. Dr. Robert Wolverton will serve as narrator for the famed Peter and the Wolf. Programs for Children is made possible by the support of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Mississippi Arts Commission. Parents interested in finding out how their youngsters can attend should contact their child’s teacher; parents of home-schooled children should contact Ms. Ellen Boles at 324-1105.

That same evening (Friday, October 12th), the Symphony Orchestra will perform these same works for the general public (older children as well as adults) at a 7:30 p.m. program also in Lee Hall Auditorium. In addition to the music performed earlier in the day, the Orchestra will join MSU piano artists, Drs. Jackie Edwards-Henry and Rosangela Sebba in Saint Saens’ Carnival of the Animals. Dr. Seth Oppenheimer, Symphony Orchestra cellist and Professor of Mathematics at MSU, will serve as narrator for this delightful gem of the concert repertoire. The program will also include Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture. Both the Programs for Children and the evening concert are free (as are all other concerts presented by the Symphony Association).
